hot hot HEAT

You might have heard, its been pretty hot 'round these parts this summer (just trying to keep up with the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, we imagine). But despite the UVAs, UVBs and vagabond funnel clouds, we' ve been doing our best to keep cool, cool, cool...

TIPS:

1. Find shade. Even if you have to make it.

2. Swim. Lots. And keep delicate scalps covered, even if it makes you look like an idiot.

3. The location of wading pools is only as limited as your imagination.

4. Ditto.

5. Ditto. But it looks like I already learned this trick last summer.

Nightie Night

From 5 oclock until both Mudzuks and Vecais are in the Land of Nod, its a crazy sprint between Feeding, Washing, Hydrating and Bedding - those most challenging of the Baby/Toddler Olympic Events. Mudzuks and Vecais were happy to give mamuks and papuks a 9.8 on style the other night (no one in this picture is screaming), although they only scored a 7.6 on technique (trained observers and former Event Participants will notice the pool of slobber/dribble collected on the front Hugo's sleeper). Luckily, mamuks and papuks will get to perform these events over and over again, every night, for many years, so they will get lots of practice and surely will soon be able to improve their performance.

Happy Camper

Can't get 'nuff of that camping thing. After being home a mere 36 hours from Silent Lake, Krusa hitched a ride in the Porp and headed down to Long Point on Lake Erie to spend a couple of days with Nan and Vecdzanitis and Tanta Pele. Unfortunately the Weather Gods had other plans and the happy campers came home the soggy campers one day early - but not without having had a good swim, a good wash, a good walk, a good dance, a good feed... all the good camping business.

Meanwhile Hugo lived the Life of Leisure, dragging out Mamuks and Papuks for a pizza, house Merlot and Baby Mum-mums - charging it all to his expense account, of course.

Summertime Rolls

Or so Jane's Addiction used to sing.

It' s been a busy, lazy summer, in that usual oxymoronic way. Way too busy and and way too lazy for blogging anyways. And besides, Mamuks says blogging is bad because it makes her procrastinate from writing her dissertation. And the last thing Papuks needs is something new to keep him at the computer! But nonetheless, here we are.

And here's what we've been up to this summer.

While Mudzuks gets to go to *school* on Tuesdays and Thursdays....

...Hugo gets to stay home and you know, party.

But in June we got to kick back, take a break and go visit our friends, Karlis and Silvija Grava, in Boston.

Then there was Jani at Sidrabene. You know, the regular beer and cheese sort of thing.

Its also been a busy summer for birthdays, too. First, our cousin Annika was born on June 14th. Very exciting. We can' t wait to meet her in August.

And then Baby Summer had her first birthday on June 24th. That was a very busy day, cuz it was also Jani, so we schlepped back and forth between the parties.

And then Baby River Ward-Pacitti had his 0 -th birthday on July 7th! Excellent. More smallish people to hang out with.

On Canada day we went to Tanta Dace's and Uncle Rot's up on Lake Dyson. Nan caught a big fish. Hugo was hungry.

And a couple of weeks ago we watched Vecdzanitis and Nan get the pants beat off them at the Dragon Boat races (doesn't he look a little too relaxed?)

And when we get bored Mamuks lets us do fun things, like self-tatooing.

And after all that hard work, we go to bed. Going to bed is sometimes hard work, too. Sometimes you have to wear safety goggles.

Out of the Woods

Krusa & Hugo just got back from four days in the woods, which they thought was pretty cool. This being Krusa's fourth camping adventure, she was gathering wood, collecting water and checking out the environs pretty much self-sufficiently (next year she'll probably not only have passed, but may even be teaching Jonathan Tarpology 101!). Hugo on the other hand was missing his lattes and morning paper, not to mention his silk pyjamas.

Apart from Mamuks and Papuks (the standard tag-a-longs), Krusa and Hugo enjoyed the company of their friend Summer, and her parents Jen and Jon, whom they'll be missing greatly when they move to Ottawa next month. But - all the more reason to meet up again in the Kawarthas for more outdoor adventures!
